This Air Fryer Buffalo Chicken recipe offers a crispy, flavorful twist on classic buffalo chicken using an air fryer for a healthier alternative to deep frying. Perfectly breaded and tossed in tangy buffalo sauce, these bite-sized chicken pieces make a delicious appetizer or main dish that’s ready in just over half an hour.

Ingredients

Chicken and Coating

  • 1 pound boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into 1½-inch pieces (approximately 2 chicken breasts)
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 2 cups panko breading

Sauce

  • 1 cup buffalo sauce

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Air Fryer: Preheat the air fryer to 400°F (200°C) and spray the basket with nonstick cooking spray to prevent sticking.
  2. Prepare Dredging Stations: Set out three separate bowls: one with flour, cornstarch, and salt combined; the second with beaten eggs; and the third with panko breading.
  3. Coat the Chicken: Dredge each chicken piece first in the flour mixture ensuring it’s evenly coated, then dip into the beaten eggs, and finally coat thoroughly with the panko breading.
  4. Arrange Chicken in Air Fryer: Place the coated chicken pieces in a single even layer in the air fryer basket, working in batches if necessary to avoid overcrowding and ensure even cooking.
  5. Air Fry the Chicken: Cook the chicken at 400°F for 8 minutes, flipping halfway through. The chicken is done when it reaches an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C).
  6. Toss in Buffalo Sauce: Transfer the cooked chicken to a large bowl and pour the buffalo sauce over it. Gently toss the chicken pieces to coat them evenly with the sauce.
  7. Optional Extra Crispiness: For crispier chicken, place the sauce-coated pieces back into the air fryer for an additional 3-4 minutes at 400°F.
  8. Serve: Serve immediately with ranch or blue cheese dressing as a dipping sauce on the side.

Notes

  • Cut chicken into uniform pieces to ensure even cooking.
  • Do not overcrowd the air fryer basket; cook in batches if needed for best crispness.
  • Adjust the buffalo sauce amount according to your spice preference.
  • Use a meat thermometer to check that chicken is fully cooked for food safety.
  • Serving with a cooling dip like ranch or blue cheese complements the spicy buffalo flavor.
