Brie Apple Honey Crostini is an elegant and easy-to-make appetizer featuring toasted baguette slices topped with creamy melted Brie, crisp apple slices, fragrant fresh thyme, and a sweet drizzle of honey. This recipe combines the savory richness of Brie with the natural sweetness of apples and honey, creating a perfect balance of flavors and textures that’s ideal for entertaining or a sophisticated snack.

Ingredients

Bread and Base

  • 1 (10 inch long) sturdy French baguette, sliced diagonally about 1/2 inch thick
  • 3 Tablespoons Extra Virgin Olive Oil
  • 1 small garlic clove, peeled and halved (optional)

Toppings

  • 8 ounces Brie Cheese, rind on, sliced about 1/4 inch thick
  • 1 medium crisp apple (Honeycrisp or Fuji), cored and thinly sliced
  • 1 teaspoon Fresh Thyme Leaves
  • Pinch of freshly ground Black Pepper
  • 2 to 3 Tablespoons Honey (for drizzling)

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Slice Bread: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Slice the baguette diagonally into pieces about 1/2 inch (1.25 cm) thick for the perfect size crostini base.
  2. Prepare Bread Slices: Arrange the bread slices in a single layer on a baking sheet. Brush or drizzle lightly with extra virgin olive oil on both sides to promote a golden, crispy toast.
  3. Toast and Infuse Garlic: Toast the bread slices in the oven until golden. Immediately after removing them while still hot, gently rub the cut surface of each slice with the halved garlic clove to impart a subtle, aromatic garlic flavor.
  4. Assemble Crostini: Top each warm bread slice with one slice of Brie cheese, covering most of the surface, then place 1-2 thin slices of apple on top of the Brie for a fresh, crisp contrast.
  5. Season: Sprinkle fresh thyme leaves and a small crack of freshly ground black pepper over the assembled crostini to add an herbal and mildly spicy note.
  6. Melt Brie: Return the crostini to the oven and bake for 8–10 minutes, or until the Brie cheese is visibly melted, soft, and just starting to bubble slightly at the edges.
  7. Finish with Honey: Carefully remove from the oven and immediately drizzle generously with honey over the warm melted cheese and apples to add a luscious sweetness.
  8. Serve: Arrange the crostini on a platter and serve while warm, allowing your guests to enjoy the perfect combination of creamy, sweet, and savory flavors.

Notes

  • Use a sturdy French baguette to ensure the slices hold their shape when toasted and topped.
  • Rubbing garlic on the crostini is optional but recommended for added depth of flavor.
  • Choose a crisp apple variety like Honeycrisp or Fuji for the best texture and sweetness contrast.
  • For a more intense herb flavor, you can lightly toast the thyme leaves before sprinkling.
  • Serve immediately for the best taste and texture; the Brie will firm up as it cools.
