Ham & Pickle Roll Ups are a quick and delicious appetizer featuring layers of savory deli ham, creamy cheese, and crunchy baby dill pickles. These no-cook, easy-to-assemble pinwheels offer a perfect balance of flavors and textures, ideal for parties or snacks.

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 2 lbs medium-sliced deli ham (Black Forest or honey ham)
  • 16 oz cream cheese, softened to room temperature
  • 12 whole baby dill pickles (firm and crunchy)

Optional Flavor Boosters

  • ½ tsp garlic powder or a few dashes of hot sauce
  • 1 tbsp chopped fresh dill
  • ½ cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • Sliced green onions

Instructions

  1. Dry the pickles: Pat each baby dill pickle dry thoroughly with paper towels to remove all excess moisture. This crucial step helps prevent soggy roll ups and ensures the rolls stay crisp.
  2. Prepare the filling: In a medium bowl, beat the softened cream cheese until smooth and creamy. Stir in garlic powder, hot sauce, or any optional add-ins such as fresh dill, cheddar cheese, or green onions until well combined.
  3. Assemble the rolls: Lay one slice of ham flat on a clean surface. Spread a thin, even layer of the cream cheese mixture over the ham slice. Place a dried baby dill pickle at one end of the slice, then tightly roll the ham around the pickle into a compact log.
  4. Chill (optional but recommended): Arrange the completed rolls on a plate and cover it. Refrigerate for 15–20 minutes to firm up the cream cheese filling and make the rolls easier to slice.
  5. Slice and serve: Using a sharp knife, cut each roll into 1-inch thick slices creating bite-sized pinwheels. Arrange on a serving platter and serve chilled or at room temperature as a tasty appetizer or snack.

Notes

  • Ensure the pickles are very dry before assembly to avoid sogginess.
  • Use softened cream cheese at room temperature for easier spreading.
  • Customize the filling with optional ingredients such as garlic powder, hot sauce, dill, shredded cheddar, or green onions for varied flavor.
  • Chilling the rolls makes slicing neater and maintains shape when serving.
  • These roll ups can be made a few hours ahead and stored covered in the refrigerator.
