Enjoy a homemade version of the beloved McGriddle, featuring fluffy maple-infused pancakes sandwiching savory sausage patties or crispy bacon, with optional melted cheese. This easy recipe brings together sweet and savory flavors perfect for a comforting breakfast or brunch.

Ingredients

Pancakes

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 3/4 cup whole milk (or alternative)
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tbsp maple syrup (plus extra for serving)

Protein & Assembly

  • 4 sausage patties or bacon strips
  • Cheese slices (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, baking powder, granulated sugar, and salt. This forms the base for your pancakes.
  2. Mix Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the whole milk and large egg until smooth and well combined.
  3. Combine Wet and Dry: Gently fold the wet mixture into the dry ingredients, stirring just enough to combine; some lumps in the batter are fine for fluffy pancakes.
  4. Add Maple Syrup: Fold in 2 tablespoons of maple syrup into the batter to infuse the pancakes with the signature sweet flavor of McGriddles.
  5. Cook Pancakes: Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat and lightly grease it. Pour about 1/4 cup of batter for each pancake. Cook until bubbles form on the surface, approximately 2-3 minutes. Flip carefully and cook for another 1-2 minutes until golden brown.
  6. Cook Protein: In another pan, cook your choice of sausage patties or bacon strips over medium heat, turning occasionally, until browned and fully cooked, about 4-5 minutes per side.
  7. Assemble McGriddles: Place one pancake on a plate, layer with cooked sausage or bacon, add a slice of cheese if desired, and top with another pancake to form a sandwich. Serve warm with extra maple syrup on the side.

Notes

  • Use whole milk for best flavor and texture, but milk alternatives like almond or oat milk work as well.
  • For a vegetarian variation, substitute sausage patties with plant-based sausage or extra cheese.
  • Adjust sweetness by adding more or less maple syrup in the batter.
  • Make sure to not overmix the batter to keep pancakes tender.
  • Leftover McGriddles can be refrigerated and reheated gently in a skillet or microwave.
