Kilted Sausage Bites are a delicious appetizer featuring smoked kielbasa wrapped in crescent roll dough filled with creamy cheese, then glazed with a flavorful buttery mustard sauce and baked to golden perfection. Perfect for parties or snacks, these savory bites combine tender sausage, rich cream cheese or shredded cheese, and a crunchy poppy seed topping for irresistible taste and texture.

Ingredients

Dough and Sausage

  • 2 (8 oz) crescent roll dough sheets
  • 2 (12 oz) kielbasa or smoked sausages
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (such as cheddar or mozzarella)
  • 4 oz cream cheese
  • 2 teaspoons poppy seeds

Glaze

  • ⅓ cup butter, melted
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and lightly grease a large baking sheet to prevent sticking.
  2. Prepare Dough: Unroll one tube of crescent roll dough and pinch the seams together carefully to create one large, unified sheet of dough.
  3. Assemble Rolls with Shredded Cheese: Evenly sprinkle shredded cheese across the entire surface of the first dough sheet. Then, lay one sausage along the longer edge of the dough. If the sausage is curved, cut it in half for easier rolling. Roll the dough tightly around the sausage and pinch the seam well to seal it.
  4. Repeat Assembly with Cream Cheese: For the second dough sheet, spread cream cheese evenly over half of the dough surface instead of shredded cheese. Place the second sausage along the long edge of the dough and roll tightly, pinching the seam to secure the roll.
  5. Slice and Arrange: Using a sharp knife, cut each sausage roll into ¾-inch thick rounds. Place the rounds evenly spaced on the prepared baking sheet.
  6. Prepare Glaze: In a small bowl, whisk together the melted butter, Dijon mustard, brown sugar, and Worcestershire sauce until well combined. Brush this glaze generously over the tops of all the sausage bites, then sprinkle poppy seeds evenly over the glazed surface.
  7. Bake: Bake the bites in the preheated oven for 15 to 18 minutes, or until the dough turns a golden brown color and becomes crisp on the outside.
  8. Serve: Remove from oven and allow to cool slightly. Serve warm with your favorite condiments such as ketchup, mustard, or dipping sauces. Enjoy these savory, cheesy sausage appetizers!

Notes

  • You can use any smoked sausage or kielbasa variety you prefer.
  • Feel free to substitute different shredded cheeses to alter flavor.
  • For easier slicing, refrigerate the rolls for 10–15 minutes before cutting.
  • Serve with dipping sauces like mustard, ketchup, or spicy aioli.
  • Leftovers can be refrigerated and reheated in the oven for crispiness.
