This Elevated BLT Sandwich is a deliciously simple lunch idea featuring crispy oven-baked thick-cut bacon, toasted rustic sourdough bread, ripe heirloom tomatoes, fresh butter lettuce or arugula, and optional creamy avocado. Finished with a flavorful garlic aioli spread and seasoned perfectly with flaky sea salt and black pepper, this sandwich brings classic comfort food to the next level with fresh, high-quality ingredients.

Ingredients

Bacon

  • 6 slices thick-cut bacon

Bread and Spread

  • 4 slices rustic sourdough bread (or brioche, ciabatta, or artisan bread)
  • 2 tablespoons garlic aioli or good-quality mayo
  • 1 teaspoon olive oil (optional, for toasting bread)

Produce

  • 1–2 ripe heirloom tomatoes, sliced
  • A handful of butter lettuce or arugula
  • ½ avocado, sliced (optional)

Seasonings

  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • Pinch of flaky sea salt

Instructions

  1. Cook the Bacon: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper or foil. Lay out the bacon slices in a single layer and bake for 15 to 18 minutes until they reach a crispy texture. Once cooked, drain the bacon on paper towels to remove excess grease.
  2. Toast the Bread: Lightly brush both sides of each slice of bread with olive oil if desired. Toast the bread in a skillet over medium heat or use a toaster oven until the slices are golden brown and crisp.
  3. Prep the Vegetables: Slice the heirloom tomatoes and sprinkle them lightly with flaky sea salt for enhanced flavor. Wash and dry the butter lettuce or arugula leaves. If using, slice the avocado into even pieces.
  4. Assemble the Sandwich: Spread garlic aioli evenly over the toasted bread slices. Layer the sandwich with a handful of lettuce, the salted tomato slices, three slices of crispy bacon per sandwich, and avocado slices if using. Season with freshly ground black pepper and place the second slice of bread on top to complete the sandwich.
  5. Serve: Cut each sandwich diagonally in half for easy handling and serve immediately alongside your choice of chips, salad, or soup for a complete meal.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, choose artisan breads like brioche or ciabatta instead of sourdough.
  • Optional avocado adds creaminess but can be omitted for a dairy-free or lighter version.
  • Garlic aioli can be substituted with your preferred mayo or mustard variation.
  • Adjust bacon cooking time based on preferred crispiness.
  • Use flaky sea salt for the best texture and subtle saltiness on tomatoes.
