Enjoy crispy, golden Air Fryer Churros with a sweet cinnamon sugar coating and a rich milk chocolate ganache for dipping. These churros are made with simple ingredients and cooked quickly in the air fryer for a delicious treat that’s lighter than traditional fried versions.

Ingredients

Churros

  • 1 cup water
  • 1/3 cup butter, sliced
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature

Coating

  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Ganache

  • 1/2 cup milk chocolate chips
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream

Instructions

  1. Prepare the dough: In a medium saucepan, combine water, sliced butter, granulated sugar, and salt. Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring occasionally until the butter is melted and mixture is hot.
  2. Add flour and vanilla: Remove saucepan from heat and stir in the vanilla extract. Immediately add the all-purpose flour and stir vigorously until the mixture forms a ball and pulls away from the sides of the pan.
  3. Cool the dough: Transfer the dough to a large mixing bowl and let it cool slightly for about 5 minutes so it’s warm but not hot enough to cook the eggs.
  4. Incorporate eggs: Add the eggs one at a time, mixing thoroughly after each addition until the dough is smooth and glossy. The dough should be thick but pipeable.
  5. Pipe churros: Transfer the dough into a piping bag fitted with a large star tip. Line an air fryer basket with parchment paper and pipe 4-inch long strips of dough, leaving space between each churro.
  6. Freeze churros: Place the air fryer basket with piped churros in the freezer for 45 minutes to firm up. This helps them hold their shape during cooking.
  7. Air fry churros: Preheat the air fryer to 375°F (190°C). Air fry the churros for 10-11 minutes or until golden and crispy on the outside.
  8. Prepare coating: While churros cook, mix granulated sugar and ground cinnamon in a shallow bowl.
  9. Coat churros: Remove churros from air fryer and immediately roll or sprinkle them in the cinnamon sugar mixture to coat evenly.
  10. Make ganache: Heat heavy cream in a small saucepan over low heat until it simmers. Pour over milk chocolate chips in a bowl and let sit for 1-2 minutes, then whisk until smooth and glossy.
  11. Serve: Serve warm churros with the chocolate ganache for dipping. Enjoy your crispy, flavorful treat!

Notes

  • Use room temperature eggs to ensure they incorporate smoothly into the dough.
  • Freezing the piped churros before air frying helps maintain their shape and prevents spreading.
  • Make sure the air fryer basket is lined with parchment paper to avoid dough sticking, but ensure air flow is not blocked.
  • You can customize the ganache by using dark or white chocolate instead of milk chocolate.
  • Store leftover churros at room temperature in an airtight container for up to 2 days, reheat in the air fryer for best texture.
